Bari Sardo is one of the main communes of Ogliastra, one of the most fascinating regions of Sardinia, in the southeastern part of the island. Rarely over populated, the commune is appreciated by travelers who are attracted to attentive and responsible tourism. It contains many kilometres of beaches and creeks, and on the mainland, preserved Mediterranean plateaux and scrubland. You can easily reach Bari Sardo from the Cagliari and Olbia airports, as well as from the main tourist ports of Olbia, Porto Torres, Arbatax, and Cagliari, thanks to highways.
Ogliastra is the ideal region for vacations that are relaxing yet not boring, that put you into direct contact with what gives Sardinia its reputation: magnificent landscapes and coasts, numerous archaeological sites to visit from the Nuragic epoch, and traditional festivals and typical artisanship to be discovered. Ogliastra is a region that lends itself well for excursions, trekking, outings by bicycle or mountain bike across marked trails, and climbing. Among the activities not to be missed during your stay are: a visit to the caves of Marmuri di Ulassai, 20 kilometres into the mainland, and a day on the fascinating little Sardinian train (Trenino Verde della Sardegna), which winds through the mountains in the centre of the island, across gorges, lakes, and steep landscapes.
